Abstract

The golden apple snail (GAS), Pomacea canaliculata, is a rice pest in Indonesia. Various research on the GAS can be found in Indonesia and other countries. There is a need to analyze that research data as input to formulate a science-based policy for managing GAS. This research compares the trend of the GAS research in Indonesia and other countries. The data suggested a small number of GAS-related research in Indonesia, focusing more on the snail as feed than developing molluscicide in other countries. Furthermore, there is a need to improve the number and quality of GAS-related research in Indonesia, for instance, using modern experimental methods and analysis. Next, mapping the GAS distribution and gathering local wisdom in GAS management can be a good way to increase social involvement. Lastly, that kind of movement can be a basis for formulating further GAS-related research, policies, and sustainable GAS management.
