Abstract

Seaweed T. decurrens is produced in dry and intermediate forms. One way to increase its development is to processed it into cosmetic preparations. In addition to seaweed, natural ingredients used for other cosmetic preparations are kencur. The purpose of this study was to determine the best combination of T. decurrens and kencur seaweed porridge as a body scrub preparation based on the results of antioxidant activity and physical stability. This research was using different concentrations of seaweed T. decurrens and kencur with a ratio of 1:1 (RK1 Cream), 1:2 (RK2 Cream), and 2:1 (RK3 Cream) and without the addition of seaweed and kencur (RK0 Cream). The analysis carried out includes phytochemicals, antioxidants, stability of cream preparations, and type of emulsion. Seaweed T. decurrens porridge contains alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and hydroquinone phenols, while kencur powder) contains alkaloids and flavonoids. Seaweed T. decurrens porridge has moderate antioxidant activity (IC50 119.36 g/mL), while kencur powder has very weak antioxidant activity (IC50 569.66 g/mL). These results are different from the antioxidant activity in body scrub cream preparations which get very strong antioxidant activity. The IC50 values in the cream formulations RK1, RK2, and RK3 were 1.60±0.12 g/mL, 1.24±0.15 g/mL, and 2.49±0.05 g/mL respectively. The results of the stability of the preparation show that the body scrub cream has a balance pH (6.3–7.33) and safe for skin. Based on the test results, it was found that the formulation of RK2 cream was the best cream formulation, based on antioxidant results and the physical stability of the cream preparation
